Dec 04 - Gibraltar Medallions Ceremony At City Hall

A short ceremony was held this morning at the Mayor’s Parlour in City Hall during which three people received Gibraltar Medallions. All three had been unable to attend the main ceremony for this honour earlier this year because it had coincided with a Jewish holiday.

Mr James Levy CBE QC received the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour for his service to the community in the economic development of Gibraltar.

Mr Abraham Massias and Mr Solomon (“Momy”) Levy MBE received the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction. Mr Massias was honoured for his contribution to the economy through his work in property development with Mr Levy receiving recognition for his services to Gibraltar and promotion of intercommunity understanding.

Sara Levy was also given a small brooch which was made by the same jewellers that made the Mayor’s chain in the 1950s.

The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said: “The fantastic results that the Gibraltar economy posts every year are not the result of a man sitting at Six Convent Place manning all the barricades – they are the result of work by people like Abe Massias and James Levy who go out and see the world as the place where we do business. It’s also important that we recognise those who strive so that all the cultures and religions in Gibraltar realise the importance of our respect for each other.”
