Dec 18 - Time Capsule Sealed Away For Future Generations

A time capsule containing a selection of modern day documents, photographs and samples of local media – including a screenshot of the YGTV home page – was sealed away behind a memorial plaque outside of the St Bernard’s School site yesterday morning.

The location is close to where another time capsule dating back to 1954 was discovered earlier this year.

Among the items sealed away in the lead case are:

- 2014 coin of the Queen

- Stamp of University inauguration

- Gibraltar Chronicle newspaper covering the original time capsule find (Aug 2015)

- Gibraltar Magazine

- Insight Magazine

- Screen shot of YGTV

- Panorama

- Chronicle

- Plans of the new school

- List of contractors on the works

- Photographs of Heritage Department staff

- Minister Linares photograph

- Chief Minister Fabian Picardo photograph and letter

- School books (all St. Bernard’s)

- School prospectus

- Letter from school student

- School tie

- Photos of the sealing of the box

Students accompanied Ministers Linares and Licudi outside the school for a short ceremony.

Mr Linares said: “Whenever this is discovered, whether it’s in ten, fifty or a hundred years from now, it will take you back to our day.”
