Mar 01 - Talking Plaques Bring Gibraltar’s History To Life

Thirty-four main tourist sites have been selected as part of phase one of a project to install ‘Talking Plaques’ which will relay information about Gibraltar’s rich history.

By using a smart phone to tap or scan the ‘Talking Plaques’ visitors and locals can hear history come to life.

The information is available in eight different languages and the plaques are very user friendly, accessible and inclusive for all.

In order to enjoy the plaques, users need to download the free ‘Talking Plaques’ mobile application.

A statement from Talking Plaques continued: “The Talking Plaques mobile application will be the central resource for tourists visiting Gibraltar and will be a must to achieve the real experience of our history. With our website on high Google ranking, and press advertising across all media, the Talking Plaques App is the place to be found.

“The Talking Plaques has to be useful and attractive for users, so the advertising strategy is based on these principles. The mobile app has selected areas for adverts, Things to do, What to see, Where to eat, Where to shop, Where to stay, Upcoming events all via GPS map location.”

The Minister for Tourism, Samantha Sacramento, attended the unveiling of a plaque next to the Admiral Nelson statue by Referendum Gate.

Ms Sacramento said: “The Talking Plaques project is an excellent feature that will enhance the tourist information options available to visitors. We are delighted to see it come to fruition because it will also serve as an invaluable aid for persons with a visual impairment and brings an added feature of accessibility to our product”.
