Mar 02 – Second Phase Of Kings Wharf Gets DPC Approval

There was unanimous approval to allow the construction of the second phase of Kings Wharf to go ahead at the Development and Planning Commission meeting held yesterday.

In July last year, the DPC gave approval for the planning application which will see a new 17-storey residential block and three quayside town houses to be built at Quay 29.

The £40million development will be built on the temporary public car park, and will include a single storey podium containing private parking, landscaping on the Queensway access to the  building, amenities and a new public promenade along the marina.

John Collado of Land Property Services raised concerns about residents accessing the car park via the existing Kings Wharf building, however he was told there will be a second entrance once the third building is built on Quay 31.

He said: “There are a lot of cars coming out to Queensway, and it’s not a particularly good exit because of the pelican crossing.”

DPC Chairman and Town Planner Paul Origo asked whether the public promenade will be developed during this phase, and said this would be part of his recommendation to the commission.
