Mar 21 - New Buses To Service Upper Town And Mount Alvernia

The Government has accepted into service six new buses that will be used for the Upper Town and Mount Alvernia routes.

The buses have been modified to include sliding entrance doors, independent front and rear air conditioning, and a CCTV system, and are fully accessible with the inclusion of rear entry wheelchair lifts. These lifts will not only allow access to wheelchair users, but can also enable those persons with severe walking disabilities to access the bus interior using these means.

These buses are fully compliant with Euro 6 exhaust emission limits. The engines are the most modern in the market, with injection technology particle filters. The Government says that hese buses, unlike their predecessors, can be serviced locally, “hence increasing their operational efficiency.”

Minister for Public Transport, Paul Balban, said: “I am extremely satisfied with the extensive work carried out by the team involved in the procurement of these buses to ensure a product that will adequately service the Upper Town and Mount Alvernia routes. The buses are expected to provide a vast improvement to the service and I expect that they will be warmly welcomed by the community.”
