Mar 22 - Westside School Alumni Event – Over 50 Former Students Share Their Experiences

Westside School hosted an event yesterday evening which gave an opportunity to Year 12 and 13 students to meet past pupils from all ages with professional careers in wide range of sectors.

Over 50 former Westside students took part, including Minister Sacramento, who gave an opening speech in which she explained the aims of the evening and how it fitted in with the Ministry of Equality’s wider strategy.

“This is the culmination of some of the strategies that the Government has been developing in relation to the empowerment of women,” she said.

She said that yesterday’s event would allow pupils to meet and talk to role models.

“It is our duty and our role to pass on the baton to the next generation,” she added.

The aim of the evening was for students to benefit from sharing their hopes and ambitions with ex-pupils who are happy to share their own journey and experiences with them.

The School hopes that, by meeting Westside alumni and sharing their stories and advice, current students “will grow in confidence when making their own personal choices.”

Deputy Head, Belinda Bautista, said: “Today is about sharing your journey – about sharing your thoughts and fears about the future.”

Ms Bautista praised the former pupils for the speed with which they replied to her request to contribute to the event.
