Mar 31 - Europa FC 90th Anniversary Book Launched Today
Football team Europa FC has marked 90 years on the Rock with the launch of a book that was released in City Hall today.
With a motto of “proud of our past, working for the future”, the book Ninety Years of Europa FC in Gibraltar details the history of the club, and explores how the club has developed over the years.
Peter Cabezutto, President of Europa FC, together with his father and publisher Pedro Cabezutto, Minister for Sport and Heritage Steven Linares and Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Equality, were present at the launch today.
Mr Cabezutto explained that the team has gone from strength to strength over the years, boasting a membership of more than 400 football players, basketball players and management, adding that there’s a strong sense of giving back to the community within the organisation.
He added: “I know a lot of people who see this book will know their parents or grandparents who used to play for Europa FC, and it’s a very proud moment for me as president to see this book come to life.
“It’s 90 years of football and it’s a big heritage that Gibraltar has and it’s important that people in Gibraltar and around the world know about it.”
Mr Linares said: “It is good to see our football heritage come to light, and it’s great to see Europa as a club is coming to fruition.
“This book explores our civilian heritage, which is not often seen as we usually hear about our military heritage.”
The book will be on sale for £20, and will be available to purchase from Morissons, Sacarello’s and local bookshops. A portion of the sales will be donated to Cancer Relief Gibraltar and the GBC Open Day.
