Jun 14 - Special Olympics Summer Games Start Tomorrow

The 31st summer Games will be held over the next three days, starting with the opening ceremony and parade of athletes held tomorrow. 

Tomorrow will see the Opening Ceremony and Parade of athletes  led by the Band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment commence at 6pm.  The venue will be Victoria Stadium.  This will be followed by the Athletics events.

On Thursday 16th June, the Football events will commence at 10am at the 5-a-side pitch in Victoria Stadium.

The Aquatic events take place at the GSLA pool, commencing at 6pm on Friday. 

A spokesman for Special Olympics Gibraltar said: "The Spirit of Special Olympics will be ably demonstrated at these Games. 

"The athletes will showcase their skills with courage and share the joy that transcends all boundaries of geography, nationality, political philosophy, gender, age, race or religion. 

"Research has shown significant improvements in athletes sense of self, social skills and interactions due to participation in Special Olympics."

This year the Gibraltar athletes will compete with teams from the Isle of Man and Barbate in nearby Spain.
