Jun 16 - David Shilling To Perform At Gibraltar World Music Festival's Rio Carnival
Gibraltar Productions announces another amazing act during GWMF2016 Rio Carnival at The Casemates Square on 22nd of June - an appearance of David Shilling – a famous designer, singer/songwriter and performing DJ.
London born but living in Monaco for the past 15 years, David's spectacular one-of-a-kind hat designs first catapulted him to fame and he is cut out acknowledged as the founding father of modern millinery.
His work is in the permanent collections of Museums such as Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Musee des Arts Decoratif, the Louvre, Paris, who exhibited his work in the exhibition Aussi Rouge Que Possible, Paris 2008 - 2011.
David's creations including current and archive hat creations, together with hats and outfits his mother Gertrude made famous at Royal Ascot, men’s and womenswear, jewelry, accessories and sculptures were celebrated in a very large solo show at the Museu de Chapelaria in São João da Madeira and Porto in Portugal.
He was also an official guest of the Mayor of Rio at the Carnival - an experience he describes as totally “unforgettable" adding that it was the variety and size of the events that amazed him, the addictive samba beats and the literally thousands of amazing costumes. He is going to bring this atmosphere to Gibraltar – including in his show some original and rare music from Rio Carnival.
His first EP ‘Fashion Darling’ was released in Autumn 2015. The second one - an EP album ‘Sex on the Decks’ with tracks, Fake, Mental, Mannikin, and the title track is due for release on 19th of June and he will be introducing live samples for the first time in public in Gibraltar during the Festival.
David never talks about his clients, but many stars talk about him. Elizabeth Taylor, Kylie Minogue, Ivana Trump, Shirley Bassey, Raquel Welch, Chrissie Hinde, Paula Yates, Lauren Hutton are just some of the stars who have all been famously photographed wearing his hats.
The Observer reported: “David Shilling's special talent is a combination of design flair, meticulous eye for detail and a touch of the theatrical."
The Victoria and Albert Museum said: “He continues to amaze with his inventiveness”. What will he amaze Gibraltarians with?
