Aug 02 - Cemetery “Still Not A Safe Place For Visitors” Says In Loving Memory

The In Loving Memory campaign group has said that North Front Cemetery is still not a safe place for visitors despite recent Government claims.

The spokesperson for In Loving Memory, Eliza Victor, said: “We listened to Dr. John Cortes' budget speech with great interest. We were saddened to hear him referring to our recent efforts to get some much needed improvements made to the North Front Cemetery as ‘negative media coverage’, especially when at the time he acknowledged that he was also unhappy with its present condition”.

The group has said that whilst Dr Cortes’ speech “painted a very rosy picture” of the improvements at the Cemetery, the photos they have taken recently (some of which are posted below) say otherwise.

The group says that it is still not a safe place for people to mourn and have sent The Ministry for Environment numerous photos of areas littered with rubble and overgrown weeds to support this claim.

They are urging supporters to keep pressuring The Ministry for Environment into providing “consistent and adequate” levels of maintenance at the Cemetery by emailing the Ministry on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
