Aug 02 – Theo Awarded CBF Gibraltar Commendation

Petty Officer Michael Theobald was recently awarded a Commander British Forces Gibraltar Commendation. The award is presented to personnel who have gone beyond the call of duty in terms of outstanding achievements.

PO Theobald, who is known widely as ‘Theo’, was unable to attend the award ceremony last month so his achievements were recognised in a less formal event at the Gibraltar Officers Mess on Friday 29 July. Former CBF, Commodore Ian McGhie Royal Navy, who recently announced his retirement, was delighted to return to the Gibraltar Officers Mess to catch up with Theo and present him with his award.

Theo has completed two years as the Deputy Mess Manager and Bar Manager in the Officers Mess during a period which has seen the mess move from the Rooke site to its new location in Devil’s Tower Camp. The run down of the old Mess facility and preparations for the move were extremely challenging for all mess personnel but PO Theobald worked hard to maintain a professional service at all times despite the practical difficulties. The citation for his award recognised that:

“His strong leadership skills have ensured that all private and official functions have been delivered to the highest of Royal Navy standards.”

Outside of work Theo is fully involved with the Families’ Committee, organising and delivering functions for the Ministry of Defence community and representing the Command at football, cricket and golf.
