Aug 22 - Winners Announced For "Our Gibraltar" Photography Competition

The photographic competitive exhibition, ‘Our Gibraltar,’ organised by the Gibraltar Photographic Society in collaboration with the Gibraltar Cultural Services on behalf of the Ministry of Culture is currently being held at the John Mackintosh Hall.

The Minister for Culture Steven Linares officially opened the exhibition today and together with Miss Gibraltar Kayley Mifsud presented the awards.

His Excellency the Governor Lt Gen Edward Davis was given a tour of exhibition which featured more than 153 photographs from more than 30 different photographers.

This is the first time William Anthony Williams entered the Out Gibraltar competition and said he took the photo four or five years back a year after he was into photography. He took the photo from his friend’s balcony in Ocean Village and he has been working with the RAW file, developing the photograph as his talent has developed.

Mr Williams, who collected his prize a mere few hours before he headed out to start his night shift as a technician with the ambulance service, said: “It was overwhelming to hear that I’d won, I received a phone call from Mr Linares saying I had to come here today but I didn’t know what I’d won until I got here.

“I’m still in shock, in particular because you can see the work from a number of talented photographers and their brilliant, and for me to have won this is very overwhelming.”
