Sep 09 - Investiture Of His Excellency The Governor

His Excellency the Governor Lt Gen Edward David was invested as a Knight of Grace in the Order of St John at the King's Chapel this morning.

The investiture was carried out by the Chancellor of the Order Patrick Burgess in the presence of Government ministers and the Leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham, as well as members of the Council of The St John Association of Gibraltar.

During the ceremony the Chancellor said: "Remember that the Cross you will receive is the sign of man's redemption, that it's arms symbolise the four cardinal virtues, Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude and that its points symbolise the Eight Beatitudes, which spring from practice of those virtues, namely: Humility, Sorrow for Sin, Meekness, Thirst for Righteousness, Mercy, Purity, Peace and Suffering under Persecution; while its whiteness ever remind you of the purity of life required of Christ's soldiers and servants."

The Director of Ceremonies Major (Retd) Danniel Freyone led the investiture while the Chaplain of King’s Chapel the Reverend Michael Wagstaff RN led the prayers.

The ceremony was followed by a short reception in the Cloister of The Convent.
