Sep 12 - SDGG Thank Everyone Involved In National Day Festivities

Saturday was awash with red and white after weeks, with people of all ages celebrating their Gibraltarian identity at this year’s National Day.

A number of events were organised in the run up to the day, including the boat procession, the shop window competition, a banner for all to sign in Piazza, and on the day itself there were a number of events held including the fancy dress competition, a fun fair at the John Mackintosh Square and a Rock concert to tie up the day.

A surprise was in store for all at this year’s political rally after the Government of Gibraltar and the SDGG decided to put an end to the release of 30,000 red and white balloons. Instead, red and white petals were released over the crowds in Casemates Square by a helicopter, much to the surprise and the delight of many.

A spokesman for the SDGG said: “We would once again like to express its sincere appreciation to the very many organisations and persons who work tirelessly and freely for days and weeks in order to make National Day and all that surrounds it a possibility.

“There are far too many people involved to mention by name but it would literally be impossible to host the many events we do without your loyal support and hard work.

“Gibraltar is privileged to be able to count on such people and they are a testament to the generous nature of the Gibraltarian community.”
