Sep 19 - Invisible Threads Author Priscilla Sacramento Speaks To YGTV

A new novel that is set in the Mediterranean and explores the lives and relationships of families and set in Gibraltar, Spain and Morocco has been launched by Gibraltarian author Priscilla Sacramento.

Invisible Threads starts off in Fez in 1913 and culminates at a party bringing in the Millenium, and Mrs Sacramento says that although it is a fiction novel, a lot of things that happen in the book is based on reality.

Historical and cultural referenced are woven into the storyline, with the Spanish Civil War, the opening of the Frontier, and Sir Joshua Hassan’s death being referred to in Invisible Threads.

When asked what drew Mrs Sacramento’s inspiration for her debut novel, she said: “When I decided I was going to have a multi-generation story in the book, I started to think back to things or stories that I had heard from my mum and dad of the time of the war and the evacuation, and I didn’t want to just focus on the historical aspects of life back then, but also how my characters would have lived and what was important to them back and the social aspect of things.

“I decided to write the book because my mother said she always wanted to write a book and she never got to it herself, so I did it for her. When I was younger she’d buy episodes of novelas and read them out loud for all our neighbours to hear, and I’d sit there and listen to her reading them as well and it’s just something I wanted to do for her.”

Mrs Sacramento’s mother-in-law Carmen’s stories were also an inspiration for the stories, as well as the couple’s friends in Morocco and Jerez in Spain, adding that invariably people start to reminisce and there are elements of their stories that feature in the novel.

The book has taken a number of years to come to fruition, with Mrs Sacramento having started the book in 2008 but because of her busy schedule it was placed on the back burner, until last year when her husband Henry retired and pushed for her to get it published.

There was the task of having it proof read time and time again, with the book cover having been selected from a painting by Rosina Rosado and photoshopped by Joey Martinez.

Now that it’s been officially launched in Gibraltar, Invisible Threads will be featured at book fairs across the world including Beijing, Franfurt, Guadalajara, America and in London by the publishers AuthorHouse.

In the mean time, the book is available to purchase on Amazon or at Sacarello’s Newsagents in Main Street, with the paper back version being sold for £12.95 or the hard back selling for £23.99.
