Sep 21 - A Sneak Preview Into The Mr Gibraltar Competition

On Saturday night, one man will be crowned Mr Gibraltar in the first competition of its kind in Gibraltar in a number of years.

Ideal Productions have been working hard to get the 10 contestants prepared and stage ready for their appearance at the Alameda Gardens Open Air Theatre on Saturday night.

What promises to be a fun night, with elegance and a couple of surprises up the organiser’s sleeve.

YGTV caught up with organiser Mark Andrades who said: “Mr Gibraltar is not going to the typical male pageant show we’ve had in Gibraltar, like a body building competition.

“It’s just men who would like to take part in a competition and do something for society at the same time, getting involved with charity events, we’ve put them through their paces and they’ve taken part in photo shoots and learnt how to pose."

Mark adds: “We are trying to do things to show what a 21st Century man should be – or the idea of what a 21st Century man should be – which is a man who is independent, and doesn’t have to rely on a woman to iron, cook and clean.

“We’ve gotten to know them, and on Saturday is the show, and now it’s up to the judges to decide who will win.”

When asked whether there would be a swimwear round, Mark wasn’t willing to give away any secrets but said there’s a surprise in store on Saturday night.

When it comes to the contestants taking part, Mark said: “We don’t focus on a certain type of person, I enjoy having all types of people taking part – short ones, tall ones, small or big, and we’ve seen that in this competition and as they say, variety is the spice of life.

“The men have been very eager during their rehearsal times, staying on if necessary and they’ve also been very eager to help and give up their time.”

Following the competition, the men have already promised to give their time to paint a local charity’s premises and have helped fund raise for the Gibraltar Community Association.

Mark adds: “Ideal productions, as a rule, we aim to help charities as the Mrs Gibraltar contestants have done.

“People have asked me what the role of Mr Gibraltar would be and it’s exactly the same thing – he would represent Gibraltar internationally and locally he would help raise awareness campaigns or help charities do what they do.”

The Mr Gibraltar pageant will be held at the Alameda Gardens Open Air Theatre on Saturday night, with the show starting at 9.30pm. Tickets are priced at £20 and available to buy from Trends.
