Oct 07 - NAAFI And MOD Extend Commitment To Service Community

The signing of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between British Forces Gibraltar (BFGib) and the Navy, Army & Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) has recently taken place at HMNB Gibraltar.

NAAFI’s Steve Marshall (Managing Director) and John Goddard (Head of Operations), together with Rob Howell (Trading Manager Gibraltar) recently met with Commodore Mike Walliker Royal Navy, Commander British Forces and members of his management team. Whilst focusing on the changing face and reducing footprint of BFGib, the visit culminated with CBF and NAAFI’s Managing Director signing a replacement SLA between BFGib and NAAFI.

Whilst not a legally binding contract, the SLA sets out the commitment by NAAFI and MOD to support each other to provide the services currently offered in Gibraltar until 2020. NAAFI currently operate three retail outlets – Express Shops at Europa Point and Devils Tower Camp (DTC) and a kiosk at Europa Pool, together with two leisure facilities – Boyd’s Bar at DTC and the Lion Bar and Ultra Bowl at Europa Point.

The retail outlets provide a taste of home and a convenient alternative to other Gibraltar outlets whilst the leisure facilities provide a place to unwind and relax.

NAAFI was created by the British Government in 1920 to run recreational establishments needed by the Armed Forces and to sell goods to servicemen and their families. NAAFI has been providing this service in Gibraltar since the Second World War.
