Oct 18 - Unite “Saddened” By RBS Job Loss Announcement

Unite the Union says it is saddened by RBS International announcement that it will be carrying out a restructure and, as a result, a number of jobs will be lost locally. Unite says that it has been informed that between nine to 14 roles will be affected by the decision.

Christian Duo Branch Coordinating Official said: "Any job losses are highly regrettable. We need to make sure that the impacted staff receive the full support of stakeholders i.e. RBSI, the Government and the Union. We have been given assurances by the bank that it is fully committed to the local market and it has no plans to exit the jurisdiction."

Unite says that this comes at a time when economic uncertainty is at its peak, with Brexit looming at Gibraltar’s doorstep and the community being hit with job losses at Barclays and, in the coming months, at the MoD.

Unite also notes that the scale down of staff and operations in Gibraltar has continued over the last months and will see the complete exit of our jurisdiction sometime in 2017.

Unite says it has managed to secure an improved package for local staff, which will see their one of payment increased and other benefits/flexibility added to it.
