Oct 19 - GCS Represented At ISBN Annual General Meeting

Gibraltar Cultural Services employee Kimberley Pecino recently attended the ISBN AGM in Vienna, Austria, representing the Gibraltar ISBN Agency.

ISBNs, or International Standard Book Numbers, are numerical identifiers which are assigned to each book that is published, and their allocation is dependent on the country of publication. ISBNs are not a legal requirement for published books, but they do serve to ensure an efficient and effective way in which to promote, locate and purchase books.

There are currently over 151 ISBN Agencies across the globe, of which Gibraltar is one. Each agency is invited to the Annual General Meeting. The topics of focus for this year included revisions to the ISBN Standard and User Manual, and a session on ISBNs in relation to the law in each country or area.

It was felt that participation by the Gibraltar ISBN Agency in these important discussions would be beneficial to the service provided for local publishers. 81 other delegates also attended the conference, which was declared ‘a resounding success’ by the International ISBN Agency.
