Earlier today, the Chief Minister and Ministers Isola and Linares were accompanied by Gibraltarians and guests for Sunday mass at the Our Lady of Dolours Servite Church in Fulham Road. Also in attendance was Elizabeth Rutherford, the Mayor of Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The service traditionally marks the start of the annual Gibraltar Day in London celebrations which will culminate in a reception in the City tomorrow evening.

Gibraltar’s Bishop, Carmel Zammit, led the service and delivered a sermon which reflected on the role the Our Lady of Dolours church had played supporting Gibraltarians living in London during World War II.

Bishop Zammit also spoke about when he first arrived in Gibraltar in 1975 and the social, political and economic changes the Rock had experienced since then.

He noted that changes in legislation made by politicians could alter the moral outlook of society and urged a new focus on “family-friendly legislation.”

The service was followed by a reception at Fulham Palace.
