Nov 11 – Armistice Day Marked In Parliament Lobby Ceremony

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice which ended World War One, “the War to end all Wars”, on the 11th November 1918.

As in previous years, the occasion was marked with a short ceremony at the Lobby of Parliament House attended by the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

A two-minute silence was marked by the firing of a gun by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment at 11.00 hrs. A Bugler then sounded the Last Post and wreaths were laid by members of the emergency services and other representatives.

The Mayor, Adolfo Canepa, led the Ceremony and Guards of Honour were provided by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and the Royal British Legion Gibraltar Branch.

The UK’s Minister for Armed Forces, Mike Penning, also attended (see final pic) – Mr Penning has been on the Rock this week on a familiarization visit.
