Dec 01 – Karel Mark Chichon To Give First Lecture In University’s ‘Beacon Lecture Series’
The University of Gibraltar says it is delighted to announce the launch of its Beacon Lecture Series.
The Beacon Lecture Series aims to bring Gibraltarians of the highest calibre from the worlds of academia, business, the arts and civil society to our campus to share their thoughts, ideas and experiences.
A university communiqué said: “Lighthouses are beacons of light, which by their activity and prominence serve to illuminate their surroundings. There are individuals in our society who are beacons too and have achieved distinction in lands beyond our Rock, where they continue to serve as sources of inspiration and motivation for our community.”
The first lecture in the series takes place today, 1st December at 7pm, where the University welcomes Maestro Karel Mark Chichon, an internationally acclaimed conductor, regularly conducting the world’s finest orchestras and leading opera houses. Maestro Chichon was awarded an OBE and elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of his achievements within the profession.
Maestro Chichon will be followed by artist Christian Hook on Thursday 19th January 2017 at 7pm and sports physician Dr Eva Carneiro on Thursday 30th March 2017 at 7pm.
