Dec 01 - Minister For Sport Congratulates Gibraltar Karate Do Shotokai Association

The Minister for Sport Steven Linares has congratulated the Gibraltar Karate Do Shotokai Association following their participation at the UK KDS’ International Winter School in Cwmbran Wales held over the weekend of 18th to 20th November 2016.

The Gibraltar contingent was led by Bob Pugh 5th Dan and who was accompanied by Lionel Victor 5th Dan, Frank DaCosta 4th Dan, William Linares 4th Dan, Stephen Ramagge 3rd Dan, Andrew Pons 3rd Dan, Trevor Wooley 2nd Dan, Steven King 1st Dan and Ramin Khalilian 3rd Kyu took part together with 200 individuals from a number of countries including Finland, USA, Estonia, Poland, France, Belgium.

The intense weekend resulted with the confirmation of Dan grades which had been recommended in Gibraltar’s International Course in October this year. Frank DaCosta and William Linares were awarded 5th Dans, Stephen Ramagge and Andrew Pons were awarded 4th Dans and Trevor Wooley earned his 3rd Dan.

Two further grades were confirmed for three black belts who could not attend the event but were also graded in the Gibraltar course. These were Giovanni Sampere to 4th Dan, Joao Fernandes to 3rd Dan and Rafael Correa to 2nd Dan.

Mr Linares said: “It is great to see the travelling party receive confirmation of the Dan grades that were recommended in Gibraltar very recently. Well done to all."
