This course employs a blended learning approach over a six week period, with five days spent on site at the FSC. There he has been assessed as a decision maker across an unrivalled range of realistic operational scenarios, both in the Simulation Suite utilizing the new innovative Blue Hawk technology and practically on the Incident Ground.

Mr Brown successfully passed his theoretical exam achieving an exceptional 98.5%. This course will equip him with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding required as an Initial Incident Commander at operational level.

On conclusion of the abovementioned course, Mr Brown travelled to Bangor Wales, where he attended a Rope Rescue Supervisors Course. This course enables personnel who already have a full range of basic skills to advance to a position where they are able to set up and supervise rope systems to solve a wide variety of rope rescues scenarios.

Here he has had the opportunity to work on roof tops, steel structures and confined spaces as well as natural environments with all the different risks and problems these present. The course is assessed by a written paper and practical exercises throughout the five days. From here Leading firefighter Brown will progress to Instructor level next year.
