Dec 16 – Moroccan Community Association Gets New Premises

The new premises of the Moroccan Community Association (MCA) were officially opened yesterday afternoon by the Chief Minister.

Sitting at the top of Crutchett’s Ramp in the upper town, the building will provide a social hub for the Moroccan community on the Rock.

“We’ve achieved a lot together in the five years that we’ve been in government,” said Mr Picardo adding that some 950 Moroccan nationals – many of whom had spent their lives working in Gibraltar - had been naturalized since 2011.

“Some of these people had been in Gibraltar for even longer than I’ve been on this planet and yet they did not have the right to vote,” he said.

Ali Douissi, the head of the MCA, thanked everyone involved and said that the association had fought in collaboration with the government to achieve the status enjoyed by Moroccans in Gibraltar today.
