Apr 27 - Gibraltar At The ‘Routes Europe Forum’

Gibraltar was represented at the Routes Europe Forum in Belfast, Northern Ireland from 23 to 25 April.

Around 1,200 route development professionals from 114 airlines, 270 airports and 36 tourism authorities attended the event at the Belfast Waterfront Conference venue.

Meetings were held with five airlines, six airports and three industry providers. The team from Gibraltar also attended five airline industry presentations.

All existing airline partners expressed their confidence in Gibraltar and their commitment to continuing service on all routes, having seen growth in the last year. Passenger numbers at Gibraltar International Airport saw a 23.4% increase in 2016 over 2015. Capacity is set to be sustained once more this summer with up to 50 flights per week; two to Morocco and 48 to the UK.

Minister for Tourism, Gilbert Licudi, said: "It is important that we continue to attend this forum and to maintain our one to one relationships with the airlines operating to Gibraltar and the industry in general. This event allows us to meet industry professionals, discuss existing operations and explore new opportunities for the future. Our efforts in this sector of the industry has given rise to two new regional destinations in the UK and two destinations in Morocco, along with record passenger numbers."
