Unite the Union has highlighted what it describes as its most recent successful negotiation with the Government of Gibraltar with respects to the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd.

The outcomes reached include the confirmation of post of 11 Supply Bus Drivers as indefinite workers, as well as the variation of one Bus Driver on fixed term contract onto an indefinite contract, having worked over four continuous years in this capacity.

Additionally, the Management structure of the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd was consolidated by way of further confirmation of posts of these Senior Grades that are facilitating the continually professional service that the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd is known for.

A statement continued: “It would be certainly remiss for the Union not to thank the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, Minister Joe Bossano, Minister Paul Balban and the CEO of the Public Sector and Business Support Unit, Michael Crome, for seeing to fruition the Union’s issues that have resulted in the improvement of the livelihood of all those concerned. Unite would also want to highlight the very positive approach and support that the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd Management have provided the Union throughout this period of negotiation in pursuance of the improvement of the terms and conditions of the affected Bus Drivers.”

Albert Hewitt, Convenor for the Public Sector stated:

“Today’s achievement is reflective of the Union’s attitude and ability to transform positively the working lives of its members. It demonstrates the benefits of having a positive working relationship with the Government as a stakeholder to the employment relationship that we would like to see replicated with other employers in Gibraltar. I not only congratulate Government in reaching this outcome with Unite, but strongly congratulate our members in the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd for their support, patience and professionalism. Unite hopes to build on this success onto future successes at the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd.”
