Jul 19 - Youth Service Takes Part In “Rags to Riches” Project

As part of this year’s GSLA summer programme, the Gibraltar Youth Service once again promoted the traditional arts and crafts week.

Over the last two weeks a group of 22 youngsters have been taking part in the Rags to Riches project held at the Youth Centre. The idea of the project is to get old items of clothing and upcycle (recycle and renew) them into trendy items. All items of clothing were donated by Club House Gibraltar.

Throughout the project young people took part in a series of different workshops, giving them the skills to customise their items. These included, tie die, fringing and adjusting. Alongside this there were lots of team building opportunities and confidence boosting activities and for the participants to get to know each other while having fun.

The culmination of the project took place via a showcase at the Youth Centre patio, where the young people had a chance to show off their creations to parents, family members and friends. Also present at the event was the Minister for Youth, Steven Linares, Miss Gibraltar 2017 Jodie Garcia and her two princesses, Tessa Britto and Sian Dean.

The evening was combined with a photo booth, a gallery of their designs and a BBQ, with all proceeds of the evening having been donated to Club House Gibraltar.
