The Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron (RNGS) vessel HMS Sabre has returned from an out of area deployment to Morocco, where they supported Armistice Day commemorations in the city of Tangier.

HMS Sabre and HMS Scimitar are based in Gibraltar and conduct sovereignty patrols and escorting larger units in and out of the British Overseas Territory.

A spokesperson said: "However, once a year, one of the units has the privilege of venturing across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world to support Remembrance Sunday commemorations in the North African city.

"This year it was the turn of HMS Sabre to make the 35-mile passage across the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier, with a full complement including representatives from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) and the Gibraltar Defence Police (GDP).

"On Armistice Day the Ship’s Company, led by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Lloyd Cardy Royal Navy, mustered in their Dress Uniform to attend a Service of Remembrance at St Andrew’s Anglican Church.  After the service Lt Cardy, accompanied by the British Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Mr Jonathan Evans, Major Simon Dyson RG and Superintendent Konrad Chrzanowski GDP laid wreaths on the Commonwealth War Graves, maintained in the church yard.  The service and wreath laying were well attended by members of the British expatriate community in the city and took place in the immaculately maintained Church and grounds."
