Nov 19 - GAMPA Hosts University Lecturers
The Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts have been hosting visiting lecturers from St Mary’s University and University of Central Lancashire.
Julie Spencer who is the Head of Drama at St Mary’s University visited the Academy on the 20th October and held an acting workshop for year 11, 12 and 13 students. The workshop was attended by GAMPA and Westside students who spent the morning working on group dynamics, voice work and creating the physicality of a character.
St Mary’s University also gave the opportunity to the Year 13 Students who were interested in applying to their BA (Hons) Acting course to audition. Furthermore they held mock auditions for the year 12 students. This offered invaluable audition experience for all those who attended. Mrs. Spencer then gave written feedback to all the students who auditioned.
Mrs. Spencer, commenting on the workshop and auditions said she was delighted to have been invited to Gibraltar and working with GAMPA and strengthening the ties with St Mary’s University.
This past weekend saw GAMPA hosting the University of Central Lancashire. The following senior staff members travelled to Gibraltar: BA (Hons) Acting Course Leader Terence Chapman; Helen Tolson Senior Lecturer & Admissions Tutor in the School of Journalism Media & Performance; Mark Goggins Course leader and Senior Lecturer of Music Theatre; Susan Briggs Senior Lecturer in Music Theatre and Phil Holmes lecturer in Music Production.
They held acting and musical theatre workshops during the weekend, for students years 10 and above. The workshops were well attended by students from GAMPA, Westside and Bayside. The students were given an overall presentation of UCLAN and ones relating to the Acting course and Musical Theatre Course. The students spent the morning working closely with the tutors on acting and musical theatre techniques. UCLAN also auditioned several year 13 students who were interested in applying for their courses and gave year 12 the chance to practice their audition pieces.
Five year 13 students were offered a place to go and study at UCLAN and the year 12 students were given feedback on points they can work on towards their auditions for next year.
All students thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and the opportunity to work with leading professionals in the field of Theatre and Musical Theatre.
GAMPA is constantly working towards given young people who are interested in the performing industry opportunities to learn and work with industry professionals and say they are happy to continue developing their relationship with universities such as St Mary’s and UCLAN.
