Nov 26 - Governor’s Meadow First School Year 3 Pupils Hold A Pre-History Day

Governor’s Meadow First School Year 3 pupils held a Pre-History Day on Wednesday 21st November. This forms part of the school’s project based learning approach initiative wherein pupils take part in active, personal and collaborative learning activities.

The Minister for Education Professor John Cortes, who coincidentally was on one of his regular visits to the school, was able to see at first-hand how pupils were engaged in cave painting, archaeology digging, clay pot and jewellery making.

The Year 3 teachers created a realistic learning day experience for their Year 3 pupils by creating a cave within one of the Year 3 classrooms. The Year 3 Pre- History Day experience sparked curiosity, encouraging pupils to wonder and explore what life was like at the time.

Parents and carers supported this school initiative by helping their children dress up as cave people which further enhanced the pupils’ learning experience.

Minister Cortes said: “I make it a point to visit all the schools regularly, and never know quite what to expect. Being greeted in a cave by a group of prehistoric hunters was quite something! I never fail to be impressed by the excellent work being done in our schools.”
