Nov 27 - Rachael Cohen To Join Gibraltar International Jazz Festival's Music Masterclass
The Ministry of Culture has announced that saxophonist and composer, Rachael Cohen, will be joining the Ronnie Scotts Band leader at the music masterclass on the 8th of December.
Local music students are being given the chance to take part in a one-off free masterclass as part of The Gibraltar International Jazz Festival.
A spokesperson for the Gibraltar International Jazz Festival said: "Cohen is a renowned London-based alto saxophonist and composer, is one of the brightest emerging stars of her generation. Her skills as a composer and improviser have gained her a great deal of attention in the UK and beyond.
"The masterclass format will be a condensed version of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club’s Big Band in a Day, which draws musical students from all over the UK to the famous venue to be formed into a Jazz Big band under the supervision of The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra’s leader, Pete Long.
"The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club once again last week cemented itself as the world’s most famous jazz institution as it welcomed rock legend Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones) to the stage who brought on special guests Jeff Beck & Johnny Depp to play an impromptu set!
"The club’s house Big Band will perform a selection of jazz favorites in Gibraltar’s St.Michael’s Cave on Saturday 8th December. If you have not yet caught the big band line then this event is not to be missed."
The masterclass will be free of charge and will take place at 10am on Saturday 8th December 2018 in John Mackintosh Hall.
