Mar 06 - Ministry Of Equality And Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau Release International Women’s Day Stamps

The Ministry of Equality and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau have today launched a set of stamps in order to mark International Women’s Day 2019.

The images used in the stamps feature the art work designed and produced by local students who took part in the Department of Equality’s Art Competition.

A spokesperson said: "This competition was launched in November 2018 and is organised and sponsored by the Department of Equality to celebrate International Women’s Day. The Art Competition was open to all public secondary institutions. The theme for the competition was this year’s United Nations theme for International Women’s Day: Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.

"The stamps set have been produced in collaboration with the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau and the artwork presented in the stamps set were the three winning entries of the students in the Art Competition. The prizes awarded were as follows:

1st prize: Eliana Medici, Westside School 2nd prize: Kiarah Gomez, Bayside School 3rd prize: Sara Rumford, Westside School.

The Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento said: “I am very thrilled about the publication of the stamps in relation to the artwork produced by the students for the Art Competition. It is a real privilege to feature in a Gibraltar stamp and I am sure that the prize winners will be extremely excited by the prospect and also very proud of their achievements.

“With the production of a stamp set which relays the message of Gender Equality through art, we are also raising awareness and promoting Gender Equality to the public through a different and creative medium. I would like to thank the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau, the staff at my Ministry and last, but by no means least, all the students who entered the Art Competition.”
