Mar 12 - Minister For Equality Attends Status of Women (CSW) Commission

The Government says the Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento is attending the United Nations sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

A spokesperson said: "The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from all regions of the world will be attending the session.

"The priority theme of CSW this year is ‘Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.’ A full programme of meetings and activities is scheduled. There are numerous side events on various topics that are relevant to the Minister’s programme of work. Of particular note was a seminar on the Gender Pay Gap whose speakers included Katrin Jakobsdottir, the Prime Minister of Iceland and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women.

"The Minister is accompanied by Marlene Dalli Policy Development Officer at the Ministry of Equality. Minister Sacramento is attending the CSW with the UK delegation which includes member of the House of Lords and which the Minister had an opportunity to meet at the offices of the UK Mission to the UN."
