May 02 - Hassan Centenary Terraces - More Applicants Are Called

As announced in Parliament earlier this month, the first calls to prospective purchasers at Hassan Centenary Terraces commenced last week on Wednesday 24th April.

It has been a very busy week as staff from Gibraltar Residential Properties Limited (GRP) have been reaching out to applicants, as well as receiving countless calls from other excited applicants wondering if their calls had been missed or with other queries.

A Government statement continued: “The first priority of applicants, those who currently live in Government rented accommodation and would give vacant possession of their flats upon purchase, have now all been contacted and offered appointments to select their new homes.

“The exception to this are tenants who are in arrears of rent. Everyone in arrears of rent was contacted weeks ago and most have now settled their payment. Those who have not settled their arrears in full have not been offered an appointment and will not be until the arrears are settled.

“No flats have been allocated yet as the priority has been to contact applicants and offer them their appointments so that they can do so.

“Having now completed contacting all applicants in the first priority allocation criteria, GRP will now start to contact those applicants in the second priority criteria, ie those who are applicants on the housing waiting list. This will happen in 2 phases, the first to be called will be those on the waiting list and this will be followed by single applicants who have applied jointly.”

Minister for Housing Samantha Sacramento said: “As you can imagine, last week and this week have been very busy and there has been a great buzz with so many people who started to receive the call they had been waiting for, and others waiting in keen anticipation.

“I am very pleased with the structured and organised way in which the appointments for allocation are being handled. GRP and the Housing Department are working very closely together to verify and filter all applications so ensure that the correct priority is being applied.

“I can categorically confirm and guarantee that the only applicants who have been contacted by GRP so far are the applicants in the first allocation criteria, i.e. only those who currently live in a government flat which will become vacant upon purchase so that it can be returned to the Government stock.

“I am pleased that we can now move on to the next applicants later in the week.”
