No School Meals Until January 2021

Students will not be offered school meals until January 2021. This comes following news that the parent company of Smart Kitchen, which had a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government to provide these meals, has gone into liquidation.

Smart Kitchen started serving school meals in November last year.

In response to questions from YGTV, the Government said: “Government has stated that it is its intention to open all schools for all children in September. There will, however, be a number of measures taken as a result of the ongoing Covid situation. These are expected to include, as confirmed to Parliament, staggered entry and exits for different year groups, staggered breaks, to the extent possible and where the curriculum allows keeping the same classes together throughout the day, limiting access to the schools to children and staff except by appointment, using thermal scanners, using one-way circulation routes where possible and special arrangements for lunchtime to avoid large gatherings.

“In the circumstances, Government has taken the view that school meals will not be offered in September. Parents of children in all schools will be will be advised to prepare a packed lunch for children. The Government hopes that school meals can be resumed as from the start of the term in January 2021.”
