Government Expresses Condolences On Sudden Passing Of Radio Broadcaster Samuel Fernández

The Government has paid tribute to Radio Bahía Gibraltar’s Samuel Fernández following his passing.
A statement from the Government follows below:
HM Government of Gibraltar has received the news of the sudden passing of Samuel Fernández of Radio Bahía Gibraltar with profound sadness.
Samuel has been an unconditional supporter Gibraltar and its people over many years. His regular broadcasts on radio were avidly followed by a large number of Gibraltarians, who admired his clarity and accuracy in telling the reality of issues of Gibraltar and the Campo Area.
Samuel was a consistent advocate in creating good relations between the Gibraltarians and our neighbours and was always putting the record straight when those who wished us ill tried to tarnish the good image of Gibraltar.
With the Treaty that will ensure better communications across the border just weeks away, it is difficult to accept that Samuel, who campaigned so strongly to ensure the deal was done, will not be around to witness the historic event.
With his passing, Gibraltar loses a great friend and supporter and he will be sadly missed by all of us and, of course, his family.
HM Government of Gibraltar wishes to express its deepest condolences to Samuel’s loved ones and to his many friends. May he rest in peace.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo KC, said: “I have been genuinely sorry to hear of the sad passing of Samuel. He has been a staunch source of personal support to me in recent years and a huge defender of Gibraltar for decades. He will be greatly missed on the airwaves which his booming voice filled with a just defence of our cause as a people.”
