On 10th October 2013, Her Majesty the Queen appointed Mr. Felix Alvarez to be an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), for services to the advancement of equality and human rights in Gibraltar.
Felix chairs the Equality Rights Group, helping to make important advances in the rights of sexual minorities, immigrants, and in the protection of minors.
Speaking after the event, Mr Alvarez said ‘it was a pleasure to be able to convey to Her Majesty the deep love and affection the People of Gibraltar hold towards her; and to be able to witness the Monarch's wide and sincere smile followed by a gracious 'Thank you'. Her Majesty was well informed on the current Gibraltar situation and expressed interest and concern’.
