Nov 29 - Unite Expresses Concern Over Fascist Boycott of Chief Minister’s Speech
Unite the Union has expressed serious concern over the Chief Minister’s inability to give a talk at the Cadiz University in Algeciras yesterday.
Commenting, a spokesperson for the Union noted, ‘the successful boycott by Spanish right wing ultra fascists to this event is a direct attack on freedom of speech and democratic values. Unite the Union subscribes to the Chief Minister’s words where he states that violence and intolerance will not achieve anything and highlights Gibraltar’s views to pro dialogue. Unite the Union calls on all democratic institutions, political parties and Trade Unions in Spain to oppose and condemn this kind of action as an assault on democracy.
‘It is of fundamental importance that working people on both sides of the frontier reject this style of tactics as they only serve to breed hatred between neighbouring communities to the detriment of our economic and social well being.’
