Dec 03 Dr Giraldi Home Inquiry Update

This Press Release is issued in conformity with the Inquiry's previously stated intention to keep members of the public regularly informed as to the progress of its work.

Evidential hearing.

As previously notified, the Inquiry held the main evidential hearing during October this year. The Inquiry sat for 17 days during which it heard oral evidence from 63 witnesses. That oral evidence together with the testimony of other witnesses who filed statements with the Inquiry and the vast documentary information the Inquiry has received from the relevant authorities and agencies is of great value and assistance to the Inquiry in meeting its Terms of Reference.

Closing Submissions.

As directed by the Chairman of the Inquiry, the Rt Hon Sir Jonathan Parker, at the conclusion of the evidential hearings the Inquiry will renew its sittings on 10th and 11th December 2013 to enable counsel to make closing submissions to the Inquiry.

As before this hearing will also be open to the public and will be held at the Coroner’s Court, top floor, the Law Courts Building, Town Range, Gibraltar commencing at 10.00 am on Tuesday 10th December.

At the conclusion of closing submissions the Chairman of the Inquiry will outline the further procedural steps which will follow leading to the eventual submission of his report to Government as required by the Commissions of Inquiry Act.
