Dec 13 - British Sign Language Level 2 Certificates Awarded

His Worship the Mayor Tony Lima yesterday hosted an afternoon tea to honour eleven students who had completed, and passed Level 2 of their British Sign Language course. The individuals were each presented with their certificates at the reception, which was also attended by members of the Gibraltar Hearing Impaired and Tinnitus Association and Minister for Equality Samantha Sacramento. At the event, His Worship insisted that it was important for him to recognise the very important role that the association has played for those members of the community that are deaf or hard of hearing.

Minister Sacramento reiterated the Government’s commitment to investment in easing the lives of these members of our community, through training within the Care Agency and GHA, and the addition of a sign language interpreter at the National Day Rally, among other policies. The Minister added that she hoped to see the first local official interpreter take over this position in years to come. There are currently no licences interpreters in Gibraltar.
