Dec 16 - Christmas Extravaganza Comes To Town

Gibraltar will be holding a Christmas extravaganza weekend between 21st-23rd December to take advantage of the momentum created by the recent and very popular first ever ‘Small Business Saturday.’

The festive event organised by the Ministry of Culture and supported by the Ministry of Commercial Affairs, GFSB and Chamber of Commerce, is set to culminate on the evening of Monday 23rd with a late night shopping experience.

The Minister for Commercial Affairs, Neil Costa, who has promoted these initiatives as part of a broader Government drive to stimulate domestic economic activity and boost small traders at a time of difficulty, was confident that this was the way forward.

He also thanked the massive participation by the public at the ‘Small Business Saturday’ on the weekend of December 7th.

The event was supported by thousands of locals who took advantage of the occasion for a spot of early Christmas shopping.

“This was a resounding success and I am grateful at the manner in which the Gibraltarian public came out to support and participate in the event,” said Mr Costa. Next week’s Christmas extravaganza will include free fair attractions at John Mackintosh Square throughout the three days from 6pm to 9pm, together with a Christmas Choir at the Piazza, Arts and Crafts and Jumping Castle in Casemates.

For his part Minister for Culture Steven Linares whose ministry has taken an active role in organising the cultural side of the extravaganza, looked forward to the event and expressed his satisfaction at the efficiency showed by his organising team.

“I would like to thank our hardworking staff for being able to organise and coordinate the many strands than an event such as this requires and for the diligence showed at such short notice. We are confident that the Christmas extravaganza will be another local success and a memorable occasion for the benefit of Gibraltarian shoppers.”
