Feb 21 - Royal Navy Ships to Conduct Sovereignty Patrols in BGTW this Weekend

hms daring Three Royal Navy ships will this weekend sail into the Naval Base on scheduled visits. The HMS Westminster arrived this morning following a six-month operational deployment in the Indian Ocean and Gulf R HMS Westminster is heading home after handing over her duties to sister ship HMS Somerset. She will be in Gibraltar for a couple of days to top up on supplies and give the crew some well-deserved rest and recuperation.

Secondly, Minehunter HMS Brockelsby is heading out to the Mediterranean as part of the Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 2 (SNMCMG2). She will also take the opportunity to top up on supplies before heading out on her four month deployment.

Type 45 Destroyer HMS Daring will also stop off on the Rock in her way home from a mammoth nine-month deployment. After leaving her home port in May 2013 HMS Daring has called at 21 different ports and sailed more than 38,000 miles. She has crossed the Atlantic Ocean, supported anti-piracy operations in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Aden, tracked ballistic targets in the Pacific Ocean and provided immediate humanitarian support to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

All three ships are set to conduct sovereignty patrols in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.
