Mar 20 - Nuclear Sub HMS Astute Arrives in Gibraltar
This morning the HMS Astute arrived in Gibraltar for a short visit as part of scheduled operational tasking. Astute is the leading nuclear-powered submarine of her class and is the largest attack submarine the Royal Navy has commissioned by the Royal Navy.
Commissioned in 2010, Astute has stowage for 38 weapons and generally carries both Spearfish heavy torpedoes and Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles. The submarine carried out her first operational deployment in 2013. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo this morning welcomed the vessel and it's crew, via his Twitter account.
