Mat 25 - ERG Outlines Pride 2014 Event
Equality Rights Group Chairman Felix Alvarez has detailed an event set for July to celebrate Pride 2014, honouring the community’s diverse cultures, ethnic groups, LGB members, and any other sectors ‘who may wish to come forward to celebrate in peace and understanding’.
Mr. Alvarez insists that the annual worldwide event recognizes diversity and equality and ‘will be focused not on measures which may contribute to greater isolation but, rather, to greater togetherness here in our country’.
Features of the event will include ‘a parade from the Piazza to Casemates, a number of acts and music groups which will appeal to all ages, dance, and, during the week leading up to the main day, educational events, as well as photographic and other exhibitions on the theme of “Pride in Diversity & Equality” representing the wide spectrum of who we are as a People’
Mr. Alvarez added that although the event was originally an ERG initiative, ‘an independent Pride Planning Committee comprised of people from across the community of Gibraltar is currently working diligently towards July and the production of this new event and extends its sincerest thanks to Government for their forthright support’.
The event has garnered the support of Government and the Ministers for Equality and Culture.
