Equality Rights Group has congratulated workers on the celebration of Workers’ Day.
Chairman Felix Alvarez has welcomed “the increasing role of the Unions in issues of social progress. As in other countries, notably in the UK, long gone are the days when the union movement seemed staunchly set on exclusively dealing with issues of pay and conditions, and instead, is now actively participating in fomenting progress in all aspects of ordinary working people’s welfare in society at large.
“That is a welcome stance, and a recognition that, in a democracy, working people’s representative organisations continue, despite efforts over the decades to the contrary, to play an important role in progress.
“We will continue to not only warmly express our solidarity with the Unions, but to make them effective in our on-going good relations and joint work with them. ERG is committed to standing by the needs, rights and aspirations of the ordinary working man and woman without distinction,” the statement ended.
