May 29 - Kingsway House Refurbishment Completed

kingswayOn going refurbishments to Alameda estate have seen the recent completion of Kingsway House. Works included the replacement of all external render back from bare block work to a coloured acrylic render system.

The structural steel columns have been exposed, cleaned of all surface rust and re-encased in concrete. The main terrace has been completely lifted and redone with an insulation layer and a three layer felt waterproofing system. The terraces were then finished with new non-slip ceramic floor tiles.

All internal corridors and stairwells have been repainted and all exterior facing windows have been replaced. The new windows are doubled glazed and fitted with a thermal bridge across the frames to minimise heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. The windows are also fitted with aluminium, insulated roller shutters.

The Government has said that this is one of many refurbishment programmes currently being undertaken in connection with the overhaul of Government Housing estates.

Commenting on the matter, Housing Minister Paul Balban noted, ‘I am extremely pleased with the work that has been carried out. The feedback that I am getting from residents of the estate and members of the public is one of great satisfaction with the end result.’
