Jul 11 - Government Purchases Viewing Platform For Wheelchair Users

The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Equality have been aware for some time that wheelchair users are unable to see parades and local events. As a consequence, the two ministries have been working together for the last year to identify a suitable viewing platform for wheelchair users.

The Government is pleased to announce that it has now purchased a suitable, purpose built viewing platform.

The platform will be used for the first time at the first of the cultural Summer Nights which is dedicated to the ‘Pride’ event. This will be held tomorrow Saturday at Casemates Square.

Spaces at the wheelchair viewing platform will be available on a first come first served basis and people may be accompanied by one other person.

The Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento said:

‘The Government is committed to ensuring that people with mobility issues have an equal, inclusive and accessible experience when attending events. Consultation with professional advisors has ensured that this is possible.’
