Oct 02 - Can You Help Name The Locals Pictured In Evacuation Photos?

The Gibraltar National Archives team has posted a large selection of photos from the wartime evacuation on its website and is calling on Gibraltarians to help identify those pictured in these valuable historical records.

The ‘Putting Names To Faces’ project was instigated by Joe Gingell. Some years ago, Joe and his daughter Michelle researched material for a book about the evacuation of the Gibraltarians during the Second World War. In doing so they harvested a large collection of photographs. The book, published in 2011 and entitled “We Thank God and England” contains all the photographs.

This year, Joe decided to donate the complete collection to The Gibraltar National Archives. The collection is now available for browsing on this link: http://www.nationalarchives.gi/gna/NamesEvac.aspx

Please examine the photographs and contact us if you think you can make a positive identification.
