Oct 16 - Costa Announces Details Of Eco-Friendly Buses
The Government says it is pleased to announce that, in line with its manifesto commitment on eco-friendly buses, the first of twenty new route buses has arrived in Gibraltar. The new buses will be phased in over a period of three months and will replace the present fleet.
The Government says it is confident that the Man buses are the ideal buses for Gibraltar's urban routes as these buses provide great comfort and safety. Additionally, they offer the facility of flexibility and reliability for passengers by having two doors (an entry and exit), coupled with a maximum capacity for 61 passengers, (24 seated, 37 standing, 1 mother and child seat and 2 tip up seats), with ample space for wheelchairs, making these buses really versatile. They are equipped with a special solution air conditioning system designed for regions that encompass hot climates and a ramp that offers easy access to passengers with reduced mobility.
Minister Costa commented: “I am delighted to see the new MAN buses arriving and to offer the public a bus service that is second to none in line with other top European cities. These buses are at the cutting edge of technology and are at EURO6 standard in relation to emissions, the highest required under EU law. The buses also set a new standard of comfort with a vast array of features including low- level entry on two doors instead of one on the present buses. I would like to thank all of the people involved in this project who have worked very hard in delivering what, I am sure the public will agree, is a new and improved bus service.”
